Do you really know what you are talking about

There comes a time when no matter what you do, or what kind of job you have. Someone who would like to remain nameless, called today. Normal non-connection problem, so the normal trouble shooting proceeds. Some of the normal things are discussed, firewalls, power to modem, computer on and so on. But then there are the really simple things"checking connections", and "lights on the modem". Did I say lights on the "Modem", yes I think I said lights on the modem. When you use a device that links you to a connection do you not check the connection when something does not function. When you are a teacher and you specialize in computer information, do you not think how foolish you would look to your students? Well, what do you think I would say to you (instructor) that you could not even figure out how to make your connection work. I think it took 30 minutes to figure out that the connection from the modem to the computer was not connected? Kind of like Christmas lights, when one goes out you have to check most if not all. Humm sounds kind of familiar? Lights out check connection? Kind leaves me ?

Babbling people

As every day brings new problems, there is yet another topic, "babbling customers". Or other wise rambling. When you have finished talking about a problem or a topic that you have convoyed and then decide to just talk about what ever is on your mind. SORRY folks but my time is not to talk on phone about your social life or problems.
There are places that you can call to talk about your problems. Mental help facilities, hospital's, suicide outlines, and so on, but not me. When you call and have problems with what I support then I can help you. Calling me to help solve your social life I will not.
This same topic goes along with equipment that I don't support. Remember anything that a company does not give to you to use there service they do not support or can help you with. Here are a few examples , Routers, wireless access points, and other pices of computer equipment. So do me a favor, DON'T CALL ME FOR HELP !!!!!!!

More news for really slow people

Ok, here we go again. If you purchase something at a retail store and when you get home find that it after a little while stops working, what do you do? Lets see, the possibilities are endless. If it has anything to do with a computer, who do you call ? Your Internet Service Provider ? Why not, they don't CHARGE anything for support. So why do you call them? Are you Cheap? The answer to that is "Yes".
Now that we have established this, then you should know what is coming next. Cheap people suck!!!! I have never had more people looking for free information on a topic that the company does not support or even supply. What do I do next, or how do I configure this device to work on my computer? When they are told that there is nothing that I can do, being that it is not something that we support, and suggest that they call the manufacture."Oh but they charge for that information or support".
Well why don't I just rack my brains and find and answer to your problem, free of charge. Better yet, if I spend any time at all thinking about how to solve your problem, then why don't I just charge you an enormous fee. Sounds completely reasonable, after all you are seeking information on something that I make nothing on.
This at times makes me feel as if I'm a really bitter person, and don't want to help others, but that's not even the case. If most if not all of those who call would stop and think, yes I said "think", they might realalise that after a few calls on the same topic that I nor anyone else in my type of employment would be able to assist them on this particular product.

Or I should just tell them that there is a charge for "tech support on this", and leave it at that.

Some who think you owe them

Today, I have had my share of Sunday fun. Each caller has been one just like the last. Some bitching that they have no connection to the internet. I mean really, what did we do before the INTERNET? Simple you licked a stamp and put it in the mail, just like everyone else. Now days we are so dependent on the web. Some people even seem to think that without it they would parish.
I can't get on the internet and this is an emergency!!!! Emergency, if this is an emergency then you need to take the phone, and call 911. Getting on the internet does not constitute an emergency on my part. People who run there business on the net, well here is a News flash, if your business is this important, then you should have some sort of back up. What company does not have a back up. All major companies who relay on internet communication have some kind of back, either dial up or something. Also why do people who have computer rifling call there ISP to ask them why there computer is not working? Does AOL manufacture your computer, or other ISP providers? Of course not, then why do you all call these companines to fix your computers. When oh should be calling your Computer Manfacture to tell you on how to correct your Problem. I mean when you have car trouble, do you call the telephone company and ask them how to get your car started? Well for those who might read this and are those very people who think that we are the fix for all your computer problems, you better get you head screwed on straight.
